Firm Ground
Islème Sassi (2013) for Plato
I sat for a day watching the clouds pass
I sat for a night and the stars fell apart
I sat down to count the good things
And the bad looking for culprits
Looking for reason
And I sat down wondering
How I came to know
The things I think I know
And the skies opened up all around me
Swallowing me whole
So I doubted it all
I spend my day looking for
Firm ground to start from
I remember your ways
Socrates, I’d walk with you
If you came shuffling by
There was a time I really thought
I knew a god
But then he trembled, cracked
And then he fell apart
And I was on my own again
I was free again
I’m trying not to let it show
But I am lost
I don’t want to trouble you
But I am uncertain
I feel like nestling into the
Cradle of the moon
Night wind soothing my thoughts
Morning sun warming my soul
And the universe falling into place.
