Street Lamps
Islème Sassi (2014) for Cicero in Tusculum
Night is falling
Street-lamps light up in
A mysterious rhythm
Rainclouds on the horizon
But clear skies upon us
Littered with stars I know by heart
I can tell them apart
I am looking for you
You would not leave me for anything
I know and I am not afraid
Although I can’t see you
I can feel your soul
Radiating a love
Embracing the skies
I am safe, I have found a place
Where beauty reigns and justice prevails
This is my world, I built in my head
I close my eyes and I’m there
Step by step I forget all the things they have done
I close my eyes and I’m gone.
Mist over the water but I can still see the sun
Rising faithfully, beautifully
Destined to reign
Dew on the lush grass
My feet wet and a little cold
But the warmth of the days to come
Soothes my soul
